Feast the Senses Bengali Dinner and Patuagan Performance Arts Worldwide and the City of London Festival are offering a once only opportunity to experience the cuisine and art of Bangladesh in one intimate evening. The event begins with a private view of the scroll paintings exhibition at The Spitz, followed by a delicious meal of Bengali food prepared by the chefs of the Dil Chad Restaurant and a patuagan (storytelling) performance. Please note: this event is anticipated to be very popular and places are strictly limited. Tickets must be booked by no later than 5.00pm on Friday 9 July. Telling the Story traditional scroll paintings from Bangladesh Arts Worldwide is proud to present the first international exhibition of the work of Bangladeshi painter Shambhu Acharya, the country's only pat (painted scroll) artist. Since at least 200BC, these beautifully illuminated cloth scrolls have been used by Bengali patua or storytellers to illustrate traditional Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist stories. Shambhu Acharya's family have been painting scrolls for nine generations and he is the last custodian of this exquisite art. Pat scrolls are stylised and decorative and painted with natural pigments: fruit dyes produce yellow, white, black and blue colours, whilst brick powder is used to create reds. Vigorous, formalised lines characterise the style, which has been handed down, little changed, for hundreds of years. Shambhu Acharya will attend the exhibition in person, giving daily demonstrations of his painting techniques, including the preparation of the cloth and the pigments.
